Zen Shiatsu is a meditative form of the Japanese healing arts. Like
Acupressure , Zen Shiatsu uses of direct pressure. The meditation
allows the practitioner's intuition to assist in directing treatment.
While some people think of meditation as still, Zen Shiatsu is
meditation in action.  The practitioner uses stretches, placing the
client in different positions including lying flat, sitting, and
side-lying. Finger and hand pressure are applied along the
interconnected channels known as Meridians. The Zen
Shiatsu practitioner senses imbalances in Meridians.
Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element Theory
form the foundation of understanding of this healing art.
The Twelve Masunaga Organ Meridians, sometimes
called Extensions, are unique to the practice of Zen Shiatsu.
Chi, or Qi, the circulation of the life giving energy in the body,
must stay at a constant balance to maintain good health.
Blockages of this energy may result in stagnation which leads
to disharmonies in the body. Symptoms of disharmonies may include
anything from muscular pain, swelling, skin irritations, excess mucous, and fat, to confusion, memory loss, and stress. The state of balance is also known as the harmony of the Yin and the Yang.
